Stephenville is a small Texas city of just over 17,000. The city is located in the heart of Texas, and styles itself "The Cowboy Capital of the World", although several other cities also claim that title. The city became known throughout the country in 2008, when reported UFO sightings in the area started to garner national news coverage. Stephenville is also the home to Tarleton State University. The school is part of the Texas A & M system, and competes in NVA Division II athletics. With more than 10,00 students enrolled in 2012, the school passed a new milestone, and it continues to attract a growing number of students with each successive year.
If you start your apartment hunt 30 to 60 days before you need to be moved into your new apartment, you should find that you have plenty of time to complete your search. Stephenville typically has decent rental vacancy. There also doesn't appear to be any particularly bad time to apartment hunt in the city.
Don't be afraid to take a drive to Stephenville if you're having trouble finding an apartment. Some people will only advertise by hanging out a sign, and you may miss out on a few good apartments if you restrict your search only to the Internet. Meeting in person with locals at your new place of employment to put the word out that you're looking for a place to rent can also be an effective strategy.
It only takes 20 minutes to walk from downtown to the Tarleton campus. As a result, many people choose to simply walk when getting around Stephenville. There are bus routes operated by City and Rural Rides, or C.A.R.R., but their services is limited. Stephenville, like most of Texas, is also extremely car friendly, and a car makes it easier to get to other, nearby communities.
Stephenville has entertainment options for all tastes. The 281 Speedway is perfect for those who like to hit the track and race. For more civilized tastes, the Legends Country Club and Tejas Golf Course provide world-class golf. The local Cinemark Cinema 6 is a popular choice for a local evening out. Or if you just want to grab a beer and take in a local band, try City Limits.
