New Port Richey, Bayonet Point, Elfers, and Holiday are communities close to PHHC where many off-campus students commute from. But a lot of students commute from home, and oftentimes that isn’t close to campus. For those who drive from further away, they can hop on Florida 589 or 19 and have an easy highway commute to class. 589 is also the road that students can take to get to Tampa in a half hour, or they can take 19 straight to Clearwater, also a half hour away. Have you been to the Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park? It sits on Florida’s western shoreline and is great for hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Or what about the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, a similar recreational area just a few miles away? And don’t even get me started on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and its spectacular beaches and views. All of these places are just minutes away from PHCC’s campus. When you factor in all of the lakes closeby, or the city of Tampa (just 30 minutes away), you’ll wonder how students convince themselves to go to class instead of exploring the area.
