A Local Perspective

Mount Pleasant MI
Mount Pleasant is either a small city or a big town, depending on which of the locals you ask. The population of 26,000 has been growing since the town was first settled in the mid 19th century. The town is the home of Central Michigan University, and there is also a Mount Pleasant Campus for the Mid Michigan Community College.

Central Michigan University is the third largest school in the State. The more than 28,000 students that attend the school actually outnumber the permanent population of the town. The school also employs roughly 2,500 people, serving as one of the most important employers in the district.

Finding a Mount Pleasant Apartment

When to search

Anytime the student population outnumbers the town population, you know that finding rental accommodations is going to be tight. Typically, students leaving town will give notice of their move-out dates in April and May. This is a great time to start combing the for-rent ads, as it often makes you the first person in the door to see an available apartment.

Staying in the know

Don't worry about trying to impress your landlord when trying to rent an apartment in Mount Pleasant. Instead, just try to come across an honestly as possible. Be upfront about your education or employment situation. Typically, landlords will check your references, run your credit, or otherwise check on your background, so there is nothing to be gained by trying to hide any facts.

There are several excellent local bars and restaurants, with O'Kelleys being one option that is just east of the main campus. Hunters Ale House has a good selection of local beers.
