Start Early in the Day
The sun is hottest between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Try to beat the afternoon heat and start the moving process as early as possible when it’s still cool. If you can begin at daybreak, you should be able to get most of the heavy stuff done before the sun bears down with full force. If you’ve found your first apartment in the middle of summer, get started early in the day!
Dress Lightly or Beware
When doing strenuous activity in the summer, experts say to wear light clothes with breathable fabric such as cotton or linens because they’re breathable and whisk away moisture to keep you cool. Also, wear light colors that reflect the sun’s rays such as whites or tans. Drink Water When Moving in the Summer
E-squads and paramedics will all tell you the most common call they receive during summer is heat exhaustion brought on by dehydration. When it’s hot out, and you’re sweating doing strenuous activity, you’re setting yourself up for a bad day if you don’t drink plenty of water. Experts say to drink about 15-20 ounces of water before beginning your activity to get you hydrated. Then, drink plenty of water while you’re moving to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Even though you’re going in and out of your house, you still have to protect your skin when it’s hot out. When the sun is at its full height, you’re getting blasted with the most intense UV rays during the day, which can burn some people in minutes. Keep some sunscreen handy for everyone.
To protect yourself, put on high-quality sunscreen such as that with an SPF of 30 or higher, and reapply every two hours to maintain the protection.
Kick on the AC
If possible, turn on the AC at your new place so you and the movers will have a chance to briefly cool off during the move. Even a few minutes of cooling off can rejuvenate you and keep you focused on finishing.
Cool Down the Body
If it’s unusually hot, try cooling off by bringing wet towels or using a body cooling product.
Know When You’ve Had Enough
It’s natural to want to get your work done and push yourself, but be aware when you’re becoming overheated and know when to stop. If you have a headache, are dizzy, nauseous, confused, or weak, stop and cool off immediately and call for help if the symptoms don’t go away.
