Housing near UW-Milwaukee is also near the marina

As much as Milwaukee is a major center of culture and commerce, it’s also a college town. Thousands of the city’s residents are attending one of the city’s several universities, including Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. The busy schedule of students demands a close living proximity to ensure they can get to class and get home to study without spending hours on the road every day — but the budget of students can make finding convenient housing a complicated endeavor. So we’ve done the research, and we’ve dug up several cheap houses for rent in Milwaukee, near some of the city’s biggest campuses.

This charming two-story home near Norris Park has four bedrooms and a low rent of just $2,400 — if you split it with three other students, it comes down to just $600 per person. The spacious rental includes two bathrooms and a yard.

1702 East Bradford

Part of the fun of off-campus UW-Milwaukee housing is the history: Many rental homes in this student neighborhood were previously large homes or mansions, later divided into smaller rental units. This trend means your rented house will probably have decades of character and interesting architecture, which is definitely the case for this 1800s-era Victorian home. You, your roommates, and your cat can enjoy the tall ceilings, wood floors, and large bedrooms for just $1,245 per month.

3132 N. Shepard Avenue

Location doesn’t get much better than this: three blocks from the UW-Milwaukee campus, two blocks from lake park, and three blocks from the beautiful lakeshore itself. And this four-bedroom, two-bedroom townhome has been recently remodeled with stunning wood floors, wide staircase, gas fireplace with oversized mantle, and quartz countertops and subway tile in the kitchen. For less than $3,000 a month, this townhouse is a steal.
