The Best Madison Apartments Near Parks

Everybody knows that when you’re looking for a new place to rent, you have to consider more than just the floorplan. After all, you’re not just choosing four walls and a floor — you’re choosing a neighborhood. And if you’re health-conscious, you’ll probably want to choose a neighborhood with plenty of access to communal green spaces.

Luckily, Madison is Wisconsin’s most active city, home to one of the country’s healthiest universities and dozens of miles of bike trails, parks, and waterfront lake access. It’s not hard to find an apartment close to communal green spaces, perfect for picnics, impromptu games of catch, or jogs. Here are five our favorite places to find a one-bedroom apartment in Madison, close to parks and outdoor recreation:

  1. The Lincoln School

This gorgeous building — a former elementary school — boasts hardwood floors, lofted ceilings, and enormous windows. Perched on a hill above the popular James Madison Park, The Lincoln School has some of the best views of Lake Mendota in all of Madison, along with easy access to the restaurants and shops on Johnson Street.
  2.  The Galaxie

One of several new high-rise developments on East Washington Street, The Galaxie is a block from Breese Stevens field, a popular site for concerts, soccer, and baseball. It’s also only two blocks from Central Park, which is home to Madison’s only public skatepark.
  3.  Lake Edge Apartments

This new-ish complex on Monona Drive has one of the best views of downtown Madison in the city. It’s also a five-minute walk from Olbrich Park, where joggers, soccer players, basketball junkies, kayakers, and fisherman all congregate in the warmer months. A new biergarten is set to open on the eastern end of the park in summer of 2017.
  4.  Mendota Lakeshore

Yes, Mendota Lakeshore is in a student-dominated area right off fraternity row. But if you’re still in the demographic — or want to relive your college years on Langdon — Mendota Lakeshore is right on the water, with a private pier perfect for all your canoeing or paddleboarding adventures. It’s also just a few blocks from James Madison Park.
  5.  Wingra Shores

Wingra Shores is located near Wingra Park’s jogging trails, sporting fields, and picnic areas, and has great views of Lake Wingra. Plus, the location puts you within biking distance of the UW Arboretum, one of the most beautiful, lush, and informative green spaces in the city.
