Though Columbus, Ohio is definitely known for its food, it might be best known for its amazing breakfast spots. The city’s progressive population, artistic chefs, and easy access to fresh produce has molded it into one the best cities in the U.S. for grabbing some morning grub. Many breakfast hot spots even offer to make their breakfast menus available all day! Of course, this is a fantastic feature for any city to have, but particularly one that houses a large University like Ohio State. After all, college students love their post-party eats and having fresh food served to them when their eyes are barely cracking open.

“But where are some of the best places to grab a good breakfast in Columbus?” you might be asking yourself. We’re glad you asked. Some of the best are listed below, though these are certainly not the only Columbus restaurants, bars, and cafes that serve an outstanding breakfast.

Breakfast is meant to be heavy and soulful, and what kind of food fits this description more accurately than traditional Creole? The chef at Creole Kitchen is a Bayou native and serves authentic Creole cuisine. You order from a gigantic whiteboard of many tempting options, all of which are very fairly priced. Creole Kitchen is primarily takeout – with only four tiny tables – and has little curb appeal, but what it lacks in decor it makes up for in taste. It’s certainly not a great dining experience, but it’s perfect for great take-out or if you want a no-fuss dining experience. However, they are planning to expand in the near future.

This local favorite has been named “Best Breakfast in Columbus” by TripAdvisor. But don’t get it twisted. Locals love this place too! Katalina’s Café Corner is nestled in the Victorian District and serves food that has a little Latin flair, their breakfast menu being no different. Breakfast is served all day and the food is made to order. It may take a little longer to get to you, but at least you know it’s made fresh! The menu offers a wide variety for picky eaters. If you’re not in the mood for breakfast cuisine, don’t be afraid to order from their famously delicious gourmet sandwich menu! Good luck finding an empty seat on a Sunday morning, though.

This adorable cafe is intimate, unusual, and consistently orders up fantastic food. The owners of the place are known for greeting their customers in person and navigating people through the menu, which is always rotating and serving up great new confections. The chef serves international fusion pastries and dishes that are out of this world! If you’re looking to chow down on something exotic, yet strangely familiar – like a Madagascar Fig Tart or Harissa Chicken Wings – then you’ve found the right place! With only about 7 beautifully set tables, this small joint provides a quiet and lovely place to enjoy great food, particularly for Sunday Brunch!

Northstar Cafe rocks the farm-to-table business, particularly when it comes to breakfast. Columbus locals rave about their fluffy pancakes and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Northstar’s casual yet metropolitan vibe is extremely enjoyable and reflects the eclecticism of their clientele, which can sometimes accumulate in a line out the door during lunch hour. Many of the items on the menu have been specifically designed with organic ingredients and health in mind. They’re also known for their friendliness towards vegetarians and vegans, making it a great place to dine when you have a group of friends with varying dietary preferences.

Skillet

Regularly described a “gem” of Columbus, Skillet is a farm-to-table restaurant that serves up rustic-style comfort food with a modern twist. Though their menu may appear small compared to other restaurants, they make up for quantity with quality. Service is also known for being outstanding, despite the long waits that can sometimes occur. It’s important to know that this place is popular and keeps unusual hours, meaning that making a reservation may be best. Lines can get pretty lengthy – though less so during breakfast hours – and the waits can be long. Ultimately, this restaurant is for the patient and for those who wish to try new things.

The Surly Girl Saloon is a favorite brunch place for those who love a fun atmosphere and traditional breakfast cocktails. This pirate-meets-cowgirl themed restaurant and bar loves to show their sense of humor everywhere, from the decor to the appropriately sassy item names on the menu. They even serve brunch until 4pm, which is perfect for those just stirring from a night of partying. Their menu leans towards Tex-Mex foods, though what they’re truly renowned for are their amazing Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, which come at different spice levels for the meek and daring alike. Be sure not to miss this fun breakfast spot!

If you’re looking for an upscale brunch with a more modern feel to it, then look no further! This tavern is a brewing company by night, but on Sunday mornings turns into a haven for excellent spins on traditional brunch dishes. Wolf’s Ridge has garnered many local awards for its mouth-watering cuisine. Most of the breakfast dishes are more refined versions of their classic recipes (for example, the Eggs Benedict features a pale ale hollandaise sauce). Don’t worry though. Nothing about this place is inaccessible! The food is fantastic, the beer is banging, the cocktails are hot, and the atmosphere is tough to beat.
